Chenpi from Tianma Village in Xinhui, Guangdong, is renowned for its exceptional quality. Located at the confluence of saltwater and freshwater, the village's unique soil and water conditions contribute to the superior quality of its aged tangerine peel.
A local saying goes, "One tael of aged tangerine peel equals one tael of gold; century-old tangerine peel surpasses gold in value." During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Xinhui's tangerine peel was exported overseas via the Maritime Silk Road.
Today, the villagers of Tianma Village still adhere to the traditional "three-year aging" process, allowing each piece of tangerine peel to develop a rich medicinal and fruity aroma through natural time passage.
